On a Thursday and Friday night, I help out as an officer in the Boys' Brigade. If you have not heard of this organisation before it is an organisation for Boys within the ages of 6 and 18.
The Boys' Brigade is split up into three sections based on the Boys age, Anchor Boys cater for boys between the ages of 6-7, Junior Section 8-11 and Company Section 12 to 18. The organisation was set up in 1883 by our founder, William Alaxander Smith and the first company was based in Glasgow, not 30 miles from where I stay. The Brigade is now a world wide organisation.
Willian Alexander Smith founded the Boys' Brigade due to problems he was having making boys in his Sunday School pay attention to what he was saying. He made discipline to top priority in the group and made the Boys' take part in drill. In the early years the Boys paraded with a rifle.
I have been a member of the 4th Ayr Boys' Brigade Company since I was 8 years old and have been a Lieuitenant in the Company since I was 18.
