Welcome to the Profound Unilateral Hearing Loss Advice Website
Please spend some time here and explore the world of Random Deafness which I inhabit as a conseqeuence of having PUHL (Profound Unilateral Hearing Loss). I find that most people are generally less intereted in the medical term of PUHL (Profound Unilateral Hearing Loss), or its nickname of SSD (Single Sided Deafness) — they really just need to know that the person they're trying to communicate with can sometimes hear them ok, but sometimes he/she can't hear them atall! What makes it worse is that there is no way of knowing when that non-hearing state occurs, or for how long it might last inbetween periods he/she can again be able to hear what you are saying (over the course of your trying to have a conversation with them). That basic knowledge seems to be fundamental in order to avoid friction through avoidable misunderstandings. With that said, the hearing person ought to accept the near certainty that the person with PUHL will have lost some (if not all) of the context of any conversation as he/she flips between "hearing what was said" and "not hearing what was said". So I hope this website assists people develop that basic understanding.
