Fox Hunt meet of the East Kent Fox Hunt

Location: Aldington

Date: 20 December 2003

Due to problems with our van we were to late to get to follow the hunt to the meet, so a small group of us went out checking old hunt meets in one of our private vehicles. By a stroke of luck we followed a hunt rider to the meet. The hunt met at Court Lodge Farm, near Aldington church, and started hunting the usual area south east of Aldington. It wasn't long before we had taken the hounds off the scent of a fox by using lemon spray to cover the scent - many of the riders who could smell lemon showed their disgust! Later on in the day the hunt was on Knoll Hill and was on the scentof a fox. We headed down a footpath only to see the hounds marking to ground, which is when the hounds have chased the fox into a hole. We got all the sabs together then sat on the hole so the terrier men could not dig the animal out. We stayed there long enough to be sure that it would be safe then headed off to find the hunt again. Unfortunately we lost them and at about 3pm we decided to call it a day as it was getting dark and the hunt would have to stop soon due to the lack of light.
