This
first (top) floor duplex apartment is situated in San Luis, between the two
Salt Lakes of Laguna de Torrevieja and Laguna de la Mata, on the Crevillente
Road (CV-90), near Torrevieja town. It has three bedrooms, lounge with dining
area, balcony leading from the lounge, fully fitted kitchen, bathroom, and private
roof solarium. The apartment is part of a private community, which has a communal
swimming pool. Torrevieja town centre and marina are only five kilometres (ten
minutes drive) away with many bars, shops, restaurants and boutiques.
Local Area: Within a few minutes walking distance of the apartments, at the entrance to San Luis, there is a small supermarket, a bank and approximately seven bar/restaurants, serving Spanish, English and Chinese food (some serve take-away food also). La Siesta (a few minutes drive or approximately twenty minutes walk away) has three small supermarkets and approximately four bar/restaurants. These bars have nightly entertainment in the July/August high season. Between San Luis and La Siesta there is a restaurant called "Tara", which is just right for that special occasion. It is more expensive than the other restaurants (which are relatively inexpensive) and you do need to book a table, as it is always busy.
Salt Lakes: From the roof solarium of both apartments, there are extensive
unspoiled views of the surrounding area and the Salt Lakes of Laguna de Torrevieja
and Laguna de la Mata. Torrevieja is famous for the two huge saltwater lagoons
which surround it. These "Salterns of Torrevieja" are the second biggest
in the world and certainly the largest in Europe. The lagoons have been designated
as national parks and are an impressive sight, they have viewing platforms to
observe the wildlife and attract more than 250 bird species including flamingos.
The flats have been used for salt production since Roman times and still provide
salt for export worldwide. You may also wish to bathe in these lakes to take
advantage of their therapeutic properties.
The lakes can be accessed through an entrance just behind the apartment complex
and also through an entrance situated on the other side of San Luis, across
the main road at the roundabout.
Torrevieja Town Centre: The lively town center of Torrevieja, with its nightly street market and resident funfair, also has its own outdoor market on Fridays. There is a bus service, into the town centre, and the nearest stop is 100 metres away from the apartment. In Torrevieja town you will find a two storey indoor market selling fish, meat, fruit and vegetables and just before the town, there is a large hypermarket (Carrefour) and drive-thru McDonalds. There are many restaurants and a few nightclubs in and around the town. The promenade along the seafront in Torrevieja has been extensively and tastefully restructured with decking sunbathing areas and harbours for swimming, which have been constructed with stone jetties. There is a sandy beach at one end of the town and a long harbour wall around the Marina at the other end. Boat trips are available from the Marina, or you may wish to admire the scenery by walking along the harbour wall or the promenade.
