Although 3650 is a privately owned engine, it will always be based with the Great Western Society at Didcot Railway Centre. However, now restoration is complete and providing there isn't a shortage of small engines available for operation at Didcot, 3650 will be able to make occational visits to other preserved lines. We have already had several requests, so watch the LATEST NEWS & STEAM DATES page, for where and when 3650 is operating.
In the mean time there is usually someone from the group working on 3650 when at Didcot every Saturday. So if you feel like visiting us, or maybe even helping with the project, as there's always maintenance or even cleaning to do, please come along. Just to make sure, (especially in the winter when it's really cold), you can contact either myself, Kevin Dare at, kevin@3650.co.uk or Bob Fry at, bob@3650.co.uk. The age range of current group members varies from 16 to 60+. Skills range from none to basic engineering and what we have learnt as we have progressed, so all are welcome. As the saying goes, "It ain't rocket science!!"
There is usually an admission fee for visitors to the railway centre which varies depending on the time of year, the event, or if engines are operating. Admission is free to members and working members of the Great Western Society so why not join. Other benefits can later include becoming part of the operating departement usually starting as a shunter and progressing on to footplate duties including driving.
