The Parish Plan, produced by the community, was adopted by the Council in January 2008.  The full version is elsewhere on this website but from it the Parish Council produced its own summary version which was distributed to households in April 2008 and launched at the Annual Parish Meeting on 30th April 2008.

These aims and objectives of the Parish Council remain unchanged, so please read on if you are interested in Parish Councils in local life.

Since their formation in 1894 Parish Councils have worked continuously on behalf of their very own local community, often with few resources but much local co-operation.  Councillors give their time freely to decide how best they can help their communities. Parish & Town Councils work in conjunction with their larger relatives the District and the County Council (here that is Stroud District and Gloucestershire County) & KSPC has recently signed up to the Charter produced by GCC.

Generally, smaller Parish Councils do not take on services or tasks that are carried out by the other authorities (mainly through lack of resources such as staff etc) but sometimes this is possible & our slightly larger Parish or Town Council relatives often have a Parish office & own other public premises & have numerous employees working on various local tasks.

Perennial issues are litter and young people which seem inextricably linked in many people’s minds.  Where we can we get Stroud District Council to provide extra bins & keep areas clear.  On Marling Close we have to rely on Marling’s Close Trust and now they have engaged someone to keep the area tidy.  We do not ourselves have sufficient resources to fund a parish litter warden but we do employ one gentleman who takes care of the bus shelter on the Village Green & many of you know at first hand what his task is like.

The Parish Council owns very little – the amenity land at the corner of Elmlea Road & land between St George’s Avenue and St George’s Close which is currently fully tenanted by 8 allotment tenants.  KSPC is responsible for the maintenance of the various areas of registered Village Green running through the centre of King's Stanley & also maintains several verges to a higher standard than GCC for which it receives a small agency payment.  KSPC owns around 7 seats through the parish & the 5 bus shelters and accepts responsibility for the care of the War Memorials in Selsley & King's Stanley.

Elected Members each have their areas of knowledge and expertise which they bring to meetings and between us all, with the assistance of community minded parishioners, we try to get things done.

KSPC is extremely grateful for the generous help, freely given by parishioners whose contributions are often overlooked.  As very many family members now work outside the home, fewer people are able to help their own communities directly, but we are lucky in the Parish that many people do feel they want to put something back.   Members are looking for more such people to help drive forward initiatives for young people – so if you have an interest in that direction, and time to pursue it, please get in touch with David Hauser.

The Parish Council is the most local tier of local government & is the only one with the real local knowledge because it is composed of people who live in & care about the Parish.  We don’t know it all & cannot know all of you – but we know more about our Parish than any other Council and sometimes this local knowledge, often gained through you, has proved invaluable in correcting inaccuracies & fighting our corner.
