Inland Guernsey

Guernsey may have some wonderful beaches to relax on, but the inland landscape is just as pretty and unique. The main photograph is taken behind Rocquaine Bay, and it is just possible to see L'ree in the distance between the trees. (See the small enlargement photo.)
In the smaller picture it is also possible to see the window of a rather large house which overlooks Rocquaine Bay. The views of the island and the bay are wonderful from this position.
Notice the steep granite sided walls which are covered in grass. The roads are also very slim in the island itself because erosion cannot occur due to the walls I have just mentioned.
This makes driving around these lanes very difficult; if you meet another car you may have to reverse a long way to find a passing point.

All roads are also very twisty; there is hardly a straight road on the island, but it also means that drivers have to be very cautious, perhaps making the roads safer in the process.
