Trooper II
Trooper II is my largest project, a sublimation
of all my programming skills, and my obsession
for the 12 months it took to create the game from
scratch, designing first the graphics engine (which
was surprisingly simple), introducing more and
more varied graphics for it to work on, and finally
fully applying a platform game engine and a user
friendly level editor. The game was completed
by me as part of our school's young enterprise
scheme (which was a bit of a steep deal - 30 hours
of intense programming to finish the thing, got
paid nothing), as released or sale around our
school on CD. Amazingly, itacquired a bizaare
cult following with some of the younger years,
and we managed to sell enough to more than break
even, which was, at least, reassuring. In these
pages I've attempted to contain the scrolling
multitude of pages that I've previously written
on the game, as well as offering the game for
download. Included is the levels section, where
some extra levels designed in the meantime are
available (due to my unique format they are usually
only 2-3 Kb, and so well worth a look), and the
very extensive guide I produced to provide online
instructions for the sale version. In addition,
the level editor for windows is now available
for download, and for the more hardcore fan provides
a much more user friendly interface to the level
editting system. I hope you enjoy the game, and
if you bought it for the princely sum of £1.50,
you don't feel too bitter about me releasing it
for download. Just a note: noone I know of, apart
from myself, has ever completed the game. Personally,
I don't think it's too hard; I can run through
the game in around 45 minutes; but if you do complete
the thing, my personal best score is 139,500.
If you exceed this, you have gained my respect,
although I suspect you need to get out more. None
the less, Trooper II is a laugh any time, and
it's also my masterpiece, almost completely bug
free, and free, so at under a megabyte it's worth
having whatever. Enjoy, Jon
