BUDGIES

We chose to talk about budgies because we think they are nice pets. I have a grey budgie called Milo.

Budgies came from Australia. They would be in huge flocks and they would nest in eucalyptus trees. Aborigines would kill budgies to eat for a snack. John Gould brought two budgies back to England in 1838.The budgies were friendly and very easy to breed. There are about 8 million budgies in the United States and many millions all over the rest of the world. Budgies can live up to 15 years old.

Budgies are very friendly and very good pets for everyone. They are colourful, they can be blue, green, yellow and white orViolet. Budgies are very easy to look after and are good company. Budgies can learn up to 800 words if you train them.

You get budgies from pet shops and all the equipment that you need, you need a cage The cage has to be about 18 inches long by 18 inches wide for one or two budgies. The bars of the cage should not be bigger than half a inch wide. The bars have to be horizontal so the budgies are able to climb. They like to get out of the cage to fly about as well.

Budgies eat seeds, grains and vegetation. You can give budgies fresh fruit and vegetables as a treat.

DO NOT give them lettuce, avocado, lemon or potato as these are harmful to them. You need to give them cuttle fish, which is a vitamin and helps to grind their beak down.

Budgies need different toys to keep them busy. You can give them a toy swing, perch, mirror, ladders and they like toys with bells and in them. Budgies are very intelligent and like plenty toys to play with.

Your budgie can be very tame but you do need to start training them from an early age. It is best for one person to do the training. It is best to start using a stick or perch to gently stroke its chest, do this a couple of times a day. Then it should begin to jump onto the stick. Next step is to open the door and try this with your hand, it might take a few weeks but it is worth it in the end.
