CATS AND KITTENS
Intro.
I am writing about cats and kittens. You can get up to 30-40 different breeds, I will also tell you how to look after them.
History
I had a cat called Tigger he always came home dirty and covered in ticks after being up in the woods.
What they are like?
You can get up to 30 - 40 different breeds of cats. A male cat is called a tom, female cats are called a queen. Cats have a fondness for settling in high places because it gives them a better observation point. They love to hunt for mice and birds.
Where you can get one?
You can get a cat or a kitten from anywhere but the most usual places are at the pet shop, from a friend or a present from someone you know.
How to look after them?
You take them to the vets for check-ups when they are not well. You make them feel welcome and play with them. You have to feed them once a day.
Food
Cats eat meat, for example, mice, rabbits, birds, they also eat fish and cat food. Cats have a dietary of leaves, grass and shrubs
Equipment
You need a cat flap, a bed, bowls for their food and milk, litter tray. Some cats like to play with toys and like to get their fur brushed everyday to be healthy.
Cat's facts
Cats first came to Britain over 1000 years ago. They were used to hunt for rats and mice, which ate people's food. A female cat which has not been neutered can have up to three litters of kittens a year, with five kittens in each litter. Kittens need lots of attention and also need to be toilet-trained. Cats can get worms which live in their stomachs and make them ill. Take your cat to the vet if it has worms.
How long can they live for ?
Some cats can live for 20 years and longer if you look after them and treat them well.
Safe hands
Cats and kittens usually love to be stroked and held. But you have to be gentle. Most cats like to be stroked softly around the ear, chest, and their neck and back.
Feeding time
Cats need two or three small meals a day at regular times and kittens have three or four smaller meals. Their bowls have to be washed after every meal. Cats can sleep between sixteen and eighteen hours a day.
A healthy cat
Cats are very good at cleaning themselves they like to spend time washing and grooming. You don't need to bath them. They like to be groomed gently by you with a soft brush
The cat or kitten you choose should have a soft smooth coat and clear, bright eyes. They should also have clean ears, a soft clean nose and a clean bottom. A healthy, happy cat or kitten enjoys playing. You should have variety of types of toys for your cat to play with so that he or she does not get bored. You should change the toys every few days.
You will need to check your cat for fleas. Fleas can live on your cat, bite it and make its skin itchy. If your cat has fleas, the vet can give you something to get rid of them.
Home sweet home
Your cat will need a clean, quiet place like a basket or a box where it can sleep. This is because cats need to be kept inside at night. This is when road accidents happen.
At the vet's
Your vet will tell you when your cat should have injections to stop it catching cat flu and other horrible diseases.
