We picked Dufftown because it is an interesting place and has lots of information and it is famous for whisky.
GLENFIDDICH
(Which means "valley of the deer" in Gaelic)Glenfiddich is famous for its whisky and is one of the nine distillers in Dufftown .The whisky is single malt scotch whisky and attracts a lot of tourists .Glenfiddich's tour is free and they tell you the story of how the whisky is made and let you sample some of the product. There is a lovely restaurant at the distillery serving up home made produce, home bakes are a must!
BALVENIE CASTLE
Balvenie castle is one of the famous sites in Dufftown and it is located beside Glenfiddich distillery. There has been a couple of rulers but the castle has never seen any sieges or battles. The first ruler was Black Comyns Earls of Buchan, the second ruler was Robert the Bruce and the last ruler was King James II, There is a moat surrounding the castle but there is no water in it. In the castle you will find lots of information on its history.
EATING OUT IN DUFFTOWN
Dufftown has lots of nice restaurants with very good food there is something for everyone's taste. You will not be disappointed. There is the Taste of Speyside, the Glenfiddich restaurant and DJ chippie café and takeaway are just a few I've mentioned.
CLOCK TOWER
The Dufftown clock tower is locally known as the clock that hung McPherson. McPherson he robbed the rich and gave to the poor. His life ended in Banff in 1700. His arch enemy Lord Braco the sheriff of Banff put the clock forward a quarter Of an hour to make sure McPherson hanged.
THE GOLF COURSES
The Dufftown golf course has 18 holes a mini putting course and a bit to practice your driving . You can hire a trolley, a golf buggy and golf clubs ,balls and tees .There are toilets / showers/ facilities also has its own restaurant. It is one of the biggest and best in Moray. The golf course was found in 1896.
