Introduction.

I'm not sure of the exact origins of Pub Golf, except to say that in the summer of 1997 I had a phone call from Tunbridge Wells wanting to know the rules of the game. Perhaps we'd discussed it one night?

Anyway, I first played a round of Pub Golf in Tunbridge Wells in summer 1997. The event worked well, and since been played in Epsom in 1997, 1998, 1999 and 2000, and in Sevenoaks in 1998.

A good deal of time has been spent working out the rules of the game, which are given in full further down the page. Pub golf works like this:

• You will need one pub to be the club house - I suggest it's your local as you may be a little worse for wear when you get back.
• The course is played over nine holes, so you need another 9 pubs which form a round-a-bout route, starting and finishing at your designated clubhouse.
• As with real golf each hole (pub) has a par. In Pub Golf the par represents the number of mouthfuls to finish your drink. i.e. if your hole is a par 3, and you down your drink in 1, you'd be 2 under par.
• Each pub needs to have a different drink nominated. I suggest a wide and as varied range as possible. You can get some ideas from the score card.

Note from 2002:

Well I suppose it was inevitable, people growing up and generally involving themselves with less stupid drinking activities. I ran Pub Golf for the fourth time in Epsom in 2000 using a slightly different course, we had three and a half competitors! No real surprises that it kind of fizzled out after that point. This becomes a little historical record of some of boozy do's.......
