Update on Project Steadfast
To celebrate the 125th
Anniversary of the Boys Brigade in 2008 the 5th Livingston, 51st
Bonnyrigg and 1st Loanhead Companies wished to reach outward to mark the
anniversary.
In January 2006 they
met Rev Elaine McKinnon who had returned from Kenya after several years
mission work. She told them about the efforts of the Boys and
Girls Brigade Companies at Kerarapon Church in their bid to establish a
school. It was decided this project fitted in with their plans and that
that they would start to raise the £30,000.00 needed to build the
school.
Lasswade Church heard
of the project from one of its members, Stuart Dalgleish who is involved
with the BB's. It was agreed that we would contribute to the fund
and over the last year raised £800.00. This money was presented to
Stuart by Rev Wendy Drake at the church service on Sunday 24th June. In
January 2007 the foundations for the first three classrooms were
completed. After a short break to allow the rainy season to pass
(3 months) work has commenced on the walls for these first three
classes. All the work being carried out by hand, right down to the
quarrying of the stone for the walls. Testimony itself to the
determination, skill and hard work of the people of Kerarapon
