in loco parentis; ad infinitum; a tergo. The influence of the Latin language on western society has been profound and it is fascinating to be able to get to grips with the thought processes of the Romans by grappling with their language. No-one would pretend that learning Latin is easy. But it is not all hard slog and the rewards are great. To get the most out of the course you will need a good memory, an interest in words and meanings, and some linguistic awareness. This course is suitable both for complete beginners and for those who may in the past have acquired some knowledge of the language which they now wish to revive.
Textbook: This course follows the Cambridge Latin Course Vols 1-V (fourth edition). If you are unsure whether this is the course for you or you would like to do some advance preparation it would be a good idea to look at Volume 1 (ISBN 0 – 521 – 63543 -8) before the start of the course.
First meeting: Mon 28th Sept 7-9pm
Venue: Headingley Parish Hall, St Michael’s Rd, Headingley, Leeds LS6 3AW
