Palm Springs 2002

And so to our final destination, the desert oasis of Palm Springs. Just a two hour drive from San Diego or from Los Angeles, Palm Springs is the first of several desert towns which appear from nowhere.

We stayed in the magical house adjoining the Triangle Inn, run by the lovely Michael and Stephen. The house is set about a 15 minute walk from the shops and restaurants of Palm Springs, and has four bedrooms, two bathrooms, a fabulous lounge, pool and Jacuzzi. Guests staying in the house also have the run of the Triangle Inn, accessible through a back gate to the pool area where there is another pool and Jacuzzi. Breakfast is served on the pool patio.

In August whilst we were there, the temperature hit 117o - so be warned, it gets very hot! All you can do is relax in the pool and the Jacuzzi, drinking champagne (Californian champagne available locally for a bargain $3.99 per bottle!) and Pimms, until late in the evening, before heading off to dinner at one of the wonderful restaurants in Palm Springs. We had excellent meals at Blame it on Midnight, The Deck above the Chop House, the Kaiser Grill and El Mirasol.

Palm Springs has several attractions including the Living Desert and the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway. We only visited the latter, which gave us a thrilling ride up the mountain to the Mount Jacinto Park. James didn't seem so thrilled though when the car stopped halfway down, and we hung there for three minutes not moving. From the top of the mountain we could see right across to the San Andreas Fault as well as see the Palm Springs valley.

The rest of the week was spent shopping, eating and drinking. Here are just a few (of the hundreds) of photos showing the house, Triangle Inn and us enjoying ourselves.
