France

I love spending time in France – I still find it amazing that I can have breakfast in London, head for Waterloo Station (only 10 minutes from home) and spend the afternoon shopping in Paris.

Southwest France – particularly Gascony – is my favourite area of the country. Towns like Auch, Fleurance and Carcasson are beautiful.

Spending time in Paris for me is most enjoyable with friends.

Mark (see California section) and I spent the weekend in Paris in October 2003 - we stayed at Le General Hotel, just off Place Republique.

And Luke and I stayed in Paris in July 2004 at the Relais de Paris Hotel Republique. During this stay I went to EuroDisney for the first time - great fun!

I also spent my birthday there in 2001.

Here are some of my favourite haunts –

§         Pere Lachaise Cemetery – visiting the graves of Oscar Wilde, Maria Callas and Edith Piaf;

§         The view from the roof of the Samaritaine building, on the banks of the river Seine

§         Place des Voges, in the heart of the Marais;

§         And of course, all the retail therapy I can get in Gallery Lafayette!
