France
I love spending time in France I still find it amazing that I can have breakfast in London, head for Waterloo Station (only 10 minutes from home) and spend the afternoon shopping in Paris.
Southwest France particularly Gascony is my favourite area of the country. Towns like Auch, Fleurance and Carcasson are beautiful.
Mark (see California section) and I spent the weekend in Paris in October 2003 - we stayed at Le General Hotel, just off Place Republique.
And Luke and I stayed in Paris in
July 2004 at the Relais de Paris Hotel Republique. During this stay I went
to EuroDisney for the first time - great fun!
I also spent my birthday there in 2001.
Here are some of my favourite haunts
§ Pere Lachaise Cemetery visiting the graves of Oscar Wilde, Maria Callas and Edith Piaf;
§ The view from the roof of the Samaritaine building, on the banks of the river Seine
§ Place des Voges, in the heart of the Marais;
§ And of course, all the retail therapy I can get in Gallery Lafayette!
