About the Prologue
The world of Gingerbread Economy is unlike others of its type in that the mechanics and workings of the environment are not merely imagined, but explained to a depth rarely encountered.
Everything happens for a reason, or as an effect from a cause; but unlike most cause and effect tales, Gingerbread Economy happens after 25 years of causes and effects.

Coming as the middle part of a trilogy, Lee had to detail these 25 years of world history precisely to ensure not only that the three parts would fit together seamlessly, but that the reader could understand the world without having to learn a huge back history.
The prologue here is as it is presented in the book.

About The Preview
Presented here are the first two pages of Gingerbread Economy.
We've only presented 2 pages after the prologue as Lee's style makes it very difficult to find a natural pause once the story kicks in.

Lee's introduction to the scene

"Gingerbread Economy begins with a crime, a robbery committed by teenage loser Peter Price. He's obsessed with Lisa Harper, a girl from the next street who used to be his friend until she began growing tits and ass. Now she only speaks to pour scorn and belittle him in front of the older boys. It wouldn't be so bad if she were ugly, but with her wide brown eyes and pointed little nose, she is the perfect vision for a teenage boy's nighttime masturbation fantasy. He hates her. He hates the way she makes him feel about himself and wants to see her hurt, fearful, respectful and under his domination.
These adolescent fantasies and obsessions have driven him to a point of action and Peter has a foolproof plan that will make him a king amongst teenage boys."
