Paul McGovern is a freelance journalist and writer with a string of acclaimed short horror stories. When Paul is offered the chance to begin a series of pulp vampire novels he relocates to Transylvania to create an artistic retreat and research the dark fairytales that are the source of the European vampire legend.

What begins as an exciting adventure slowly descends into a dark and fearsome existence as Paul's research leads to a local superstition of a ghostly entity that infects men and slowly twists their thinking towards violence; an illness that turns sane men crazy, that turns the pious evil, and changes the man into a vampire.
A creature that must be killed quickly... before it kills others.

But Paul's research unearths more than just legends.
Hidden deep within the surrounding forests, he discovers a strange Christian shrine with a shallow grave. A place the locals consider evil and a mystery they refuse to acknowledge.

But the closer Paul comes to discovering the truth of what may be the grave of a vampire, the darker his psychology becomes; changing his behaviour into something far more disturbing than he could ever imagine.

Something dangerously similar to the legend he's researching.

And something that could lead him to the same fate as the murdered remains in the forest.
