On August 11th. 1999 a large crowd of townsfolk
met on the mill field to observe the eclipse of the
sun. Various optical instruments were on hand to improve the view. Although too far north for totality an impressive spectacle was still seen by all as the sky fortunately remained clear. |

More recently, on June 8th 2004, the rare event
of a transit of Venus across the face of the sun
was observed with optical instruments set up
in Timor Court. Many visitors were to observe
it directly for themselves during the 6 hours
that the planet took to complete the transit.
