The High Street contains a large

variety of buildings typical of any

English town that lies on a busy

road. Though the town is now a

backwater of the modern

highway system the evidence of

its history is imprinted on the

buildings. The inn signs of the

Cock and Bull hotels still hang

from their elaborate ironwork

frames bearing testimony to their

former importance.
