Formerly an inn "The Rose and Crown" is situated on
the eastern side of the High Street. It is acknowledged
to be the building from which, in 1483, the uncrowned
Edward V was abducted by Richard III (then the Duke of
Gloucester) to be incarcerated and later murdered in the Tower of London. In this respect Stony Stratford is
mentioned in Shakespeare's famous play "Richard lll".
