AT LAST - THE SOCIETY LAYS ITS FIRST LENGTH OF TRACK

The Society has at last started laying the track which it acquired last Summer.     Thanks to an anonymous donor, the Society received some 160 tons of track and sleepers in the form of track panels, together with three sets of points - sufficient to lay some 1000 plus yards of track.     This means the Society can now press ahead with the second phase of their development plans, which is to lay track on their Headquarters Site, and start limited train movements.

The photographs below illustrate some of the operations involved

The first load of track arrives The first track panel is unloaded
The stack of track panels grows The first track panel settles into place
The length of track laid grows Operations continue

The Society wishes to express its thanks to Ainscough Strategic Land Ltd., the Society's Landlords, and owners of the now defunct Aluminium Company's Factory Site.     They have kindly paid for the track to be transported to Dolgarrog from a site some seventy miles away in the North West of England.     The total amount of track weighing in the order of 160 tons, and offering sufficient to lay around 1000 yds of railway line, required the use of 16 low-loaders to transport it.

Ainscough Strategic Land have expressed a wish to use the large area of land which once housed the Factory to some purpose which will benefit the Dolgarrog Community, and have been very supportive of the Dolgarrog Railway Society, since they acquired the land on which The Society's track-bed is situated.

Track laying will continue as and when Society finances allow the purchase and laying of more ballast. Our next job however is to lay points to enable us to bring our loco and rolling stock out onto the main track, from it's position on the storage siding within the its compound.
