WHY IS THERE NO WORKING MUSEUM AND RAILWAY FOR THE SECR?
When Addiscombe Station and the branch line closed in May 1997 to make way for 'TRAMLINK', we attempted to secure the site as a permanent home
Unfortunately Railtrack and Croydon Council have absolutely no interest in heritage and made it impossible for us during the five years that we tried
We have in our possession over 11000 artefacts, many of which are irreplacable and would have been lost forever, dating from 1803 to the present day with a value in excess of £170,000.
We are probably the largest railway preservation society without a permanent home
Croydon's recent bid for City status was rejected for, among other things, lack of heritage. Doesn't that make you wonder who is in charge and what they are doing?
Do you want to be part of a working railway museum to rectify this? Would you like to assist in running a line with vintage steam, diesel and electric motive power? Can you help to create a museum of the SECR to the present day, including 'Southern Electic', that also represents railway staff and their work?
