Environmental information

Waste

· Around eighty percent of our refuse is recycled.
· Most waste paper, cardboard, plastic, aluminium and steel cans, tin foil as well as glass bottles are recycled.
· Vegetable and most garden waste is composted and branches are burnt on our open lounge fire.
· Spent computer printer cartridges are sent away to a charity for recycling.
· Showers are available for all guests to save water.
· All toilet cisterns are dual flush to save water.
· Guests are requested to select their menu for breakfast the previous evening to avoid wastage of food.
· Water butts are used to collect rainwater from the coach house roof that is then used to hydrate hanging baskets and container plants.
· Unwanted books and bric-a-brac are given to local charity shops.


Purchases

· Where possible Fairtrade foods are purchased for breakfast and for the complementary trays in bedrooms, providing the food meets quality standards.
· Inorganic pesticides and fertilizers are used to the minimum in the garden.
· Some biodegradable cleaning materials are used.
· Trigger sprays are used rather than aerosol sprays.
· Energy efficient lighting is used wherever the fittings are suitable.
· Some lights in common areas are triggered by sensors or are on time control.
· Solar lights are used in the garden.

· An energy management system controls the band ‘A’ rated high efficiency condensing boiler used for the central heating and hot water providing outstanding fuel efficiency and low emissions.
· Our cooker and refrigerators are also Band “A” Efficiency Rating
· The freezer and washing machine are energy efficient. Washing is carried out at low temperature.
· All radiators are thermostatically controlled and some have fins that improve the efficiency of the radiators.
· The whole house has high levels of insulation to the ground floor, cavity walls and loft.
· All windows in rooms are double-glazed.
· A communal TV in the guest lounge replaces the need for TV in individual bedrooms.


You, as our guests, can help to reduce environmental impact at Linden Lodge during your stay by please: -

· Turning off lights in the bedroom when you no longer require them.
· Controlling the room temperature in your bedroom to your requirement by the thermostat on the radiator.
· Using the dual flush system on the toilet cistern to save water.
· Ordering your breakfast the evening before to avoid food wastage.
· Allowing us to dry your wet clothes in our heated back porch rather than having them in your bedroom.
· Turning off the communal TV in the guest lounge when not in use rather than keeping it on stand-by.
