Canoeing in Sheffield is on
the up with the cleaner canal and the canoe trail which follows the Five weirs
walk an easy circular trail has been created of tremendous heritage interest.
Canoe access points, notes on the more difficult bits and how to avoid
them.
We have two main waterways here in Sheffield, the Sheffield
canal (Sheffield & South Yorkshire Navigation) and the river Don (which is
part of the Sheffield and South Yorkshire Navigation). The total length of the
Sheffield and South Yorkshire Navigation is now navigable. The navigation has
many leisure and tourism attractions with the multi-millionpound redevelopment
of Sheffield Basin at its head. Throughout the don valley the environmental and
recreational infrastructure has been vastly improved in a bid to make the
Sheffield and South Yorkshire Navigation one of the most contrasting,
interesting and educational waterways in Britain. |
