Littlefair Family History Site

Emphasis on Durham and Northumberland

Introduction

You are welcome to use the data and information on this site for your purpose, but be clear that I make no guarantees in respect of the information provided. On occasion, particularly in the 1600 and 1700's I have been speculative about accumulative or sometimes very little, data. For this reason, and if you seriously want to research your Littlefair Tree, I recommend you look at the original data sources both checking my data and establishing new data of your own.

The data on this site was obtained by working backwards in time to what I call Littlefair "roots". Having got to the roots I then did some exploration of the various branches that came from those roots but obviously concentrating on the branch that was associated with my family tree. The roots, trunk and branch structure are accessible via the menu on the left. The structure diagram provides a link to the selected branch and from there links within the branches enable upward and downward movement through the tree. The menu also provides information on births, marriages and census data. My census data is not a complete work but where I have such information I have provided a link to the appropriate branch of the tree.

If you want to understand the history of the Littlefairs, in the North East of England, the following is my suggestion. First read and look at the maps in the section on the "National Scene". You will find it in the General Interest section of the menu on the left. Then read the section "The 1700's - The families" and look at the associated data. Next, go to the "Before 1700's" section and read about the Littleforth's and look at the associated Littleforth data.

If you do the above you will know that Littlefairs were and are very much a northern Family. You will learn how Cockfield became "Homebase" for Durham and Northumberland Littlefairs and undestand why I argue that all Durham and Northumberland Littlefairs go back to the marriage of Thomas Littlefair to Dorathie Sigsworth in 1641.

Finally I am sure there will be mistakes if not blunders in the data provided so I repeat what I said above. Use the information but check it out for yourself. You may if you wish contact me as below but I make no promises. I simply wish you the best of luck with your endeavours
