After 10 days in India, I travelled on to Hong Kong to conduct further detailed research into Sir Paul Chater and to also undertake a series of interviews and meetings.  The Museum of Art are currently holding an exhibition of the Chater Collection which started in March and will run until January 2008, and I was extremely fortunate to have the opportunity to view some of the Chater Collection pieces that are not being displayed as well as those that are on display.  This was very kindly organised by Maria Mok, the Curator and my thanks to her for taking the time to show myself, Michele and Brian these valuable extra items.  Below is a selection of photos from my trip.

The exhibition runs from March 2007 until January 2008 at the Hong Kong Museum of Art in Kowloon.

A research meeting held at Deacons solicitors in Hong Kong proved extremely enlightening into the life of Sir Paul and Lady Chater.  Pictured: (back of) Denis Way, Brian, Lindsay Esler (managing partner), Phillip McDonald (business development), and Michele.

Not much old architecture is left in Hong Kong.  This is the dome of the Legislative Council building which was erected in Sir Paul's era.  It jostles with the more modern building in the background

The Cenotaph in Hong Kong, another piece of old Hong Kong that was influenced by Sir Paul Chater, paid for by public subscription and unveiled on the 24th May 1923, it is an exact replica of that in Whitehall in London.

Michele, Brian and I did a quick trip over to China for a day.  Our hosts and guide for the day was Rocky Dang as well as Peter Stuckey.  They looked after us very well and took us to this lovely Chinese restaurant for lunch in Zhangmutou near Shenzhen.  l to r: Rocky, Brian, Michele and me.
