The built environment.

How Machynlleth may have looked in Roman times is open to conjecture, but traces of the medieval period survive amongst the buildings of town and countryside.

One remaining medieval building in Machynlleth is a late period town house known as "The Parliament House" (grade 1 listed) in Maengwyn Street, which now houses an interpretative centre dealing with Owain Glyndwr.

Another is "Royal House" where Garsiwn Lane joins Penrallt Street, later altered with a shop front but possibly built in the 1300's - Charles I is supposed to have stayed here in 1643, hence its name. It has recently been 'rescued' and refurbished, and houses a tourist information desk.
