Culture at The Tabernacle.

This neo-classical Methodist chapel of 1880 has been renovated by a trust, and together with adjacent buildings and linking spaces, forms a cultural centre - The Tabernacle, home to the Museum of Modern Art Wales, holds a permanent art collection and hosts a sequence of exhibitions, mainly paintings, on two floors with wheelchair access.

The restored, galleried chapel itself functions as a performance space, with the original pews for seating. Entrance to the chapel's forecourt from the street has been imaginatively enhanced with a canopied gateway, and glass doors enliven the ambience of its porch.

Machynlleth's annual Festival, held in August, is centred here.
