Instead of treating symptoms
directly, naturopaths aim to strengthen the body's natural defences and
internal function so the body can bring itself back to health.
Naturopathic treatments include a wide variety of natural therapy approaches,
exercise, hydrotherapy; physio,
correct structural misalignment),
detox, breathing exercises and
stretches; (to improve flexibility and promote relaxation), Massage; (to
improve circulation and relax the body and mind).
Naturopaths believe the body has a natural state of equilibrium, known
as 'homeostasis', and a 'vital force' that facilitates healing. Naturopaths
also believe poor diet, a lack of exercise, fresh air or sunlight, too
much stress or too many negative thoughts can disturb this equilibrium
- and lead to disease. Its also thought that an accumulation of
toxins in the body - caused by poor elimination of waste products, ingesting
chemicals or additives, or the inhaling pollutants - can weaken the immune
system and suppress the body's vital force.
