Smart little time saving utility for only £1.95 that auto loads when you start windows and sits in the bottom left corner of your screen just above the task bar:
Single click shut down, log-off or restart (and for XP users only - switch users). You no longer have to go through several Windows menus and then get asked if you really want to do what you just tried to do!
Option to auto-filter your recently used file list so only file types you want get stored there. Makes it much faster to quickly find the files you want to reopen:
Option to automatically empty your recycle bin when closing Windows, keeping your hard disk clean and tidy rather than keeping several Gigabytes of unwanted data on it.
Works on any Windows system from Windows 95. Buy and download from my site here: http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/lorne.anderson/ or button above.
Help & FAQs:
To install just click on the download file 'setupShutDownWin.exe'. It will copy the program file to 'C:\Program Files' (or any other folder you specify) and create a shortcut in your start-up menu in the folder called 'startup'. Windows reads the entries in this folder when it starts and auto loads any program it finds so 'Shut Down Windows' will auto start when you start Windows.
Each user on a multi user system like XP or Windows 2000 can have their own different settings.
To change settings just right-click on any button and then click the relevant entries on the menu that appears.
for experts, you can find the settings in the registry under 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ShutDownWin'.
Settings for each user are whether Empty recycle bin and Filter recently used files list are ticked or not, the position of the buttons on the screen, and the list of files extensions ticked so they are kept in the recently used files list.
If you want to uninstall it then open control panel and 'Add/remove programs', find 'Shut Down Windows' in the list and click it.
If you want to stop it starting automatically then move the start-up shortcut to another folder in the start menu (you can drag & drop it). If you want some users to have it and others not, then open windows explorer, go to 'C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup' and drag and/or copy the shortcut to the individual start menu locations for the users you want to have it.
If you change the size of the task bar of your default Windows font size, then close and reopen 'Shut Down Windows' so it resets to the new parameters. (right click to get up the menu with a close option on it, and use the start menu, programs, starup folder to restart it).
