Seawatching season is fast approaching.

As always a big thanks to all those who contribute to these pages.

A RED-BACKED SHRIKE was at Kessingland/Benacre Sluice on the 25th. The final week of August has seen an increase in migrants passing through despite the persistent westerly winds! A WOOD WARBLER, RED KITE and two TREE SPARROWS were seen on the 29
th. Three TREE SPARROWS were seen on the 30th and 31st. Two RUDDY SHELDUCK were seen at Lound waterworks on the 29th.

Fortunately we didn't miss anything whilst on the Waveney Bird Club seabird, whale and dolphin mini cruise from Portsmouth to Bilbao and back this week ! An account of this very successful voyage will appear on their website soon.

Although the breeding season period for the BTO Atlas is now over you can still submit "out of season" confirmed breeding species via Roving Records. The Woodpigeon nest pictured above, found in Sparrows Nest on August 16th, was submitted online as an Occupied Nest. This upgraded the breeding status level for that tetrad from probable to confirmed.

Anyone can help with this project, visit the BTO Atlas website to see how easily you can enter your sightings online, or on paper forms if you wish, to help build up new maps of the breeding and wintering distribution of birds in the United Kingdom.
