TREE SPARROW x HOUSE SPARROW Passer montanus x P. domesticus
What appeared to be a Tree Sparrow with a flock of House Sparrows at Radar Lodge on the 13th. Despite the chestnut crown and big black cheek spots it proved with closer views to be a hybrid. The forecrown had a faint but noticeable greyish caste to the chestnut, but the give away were the paler golden brown supercilia set into the sides of the chestnut crown, where the buff ones of a female House Sparrow would be. The presence of which no doubt indicates it is a female.
