Pink-footed Geese - Browston - December 2009 © Andrew Easton.
As always a big thanks to all those who contribute to these pages.
A JACK SNIPE was in a stubble field at Mutford on the 30th.
A circular walk from Gunton Church via Corton Wood and Warren House Wood on the 28th produced at least 13 FIRECRESTS, four CHIFFCHAFF but only three GOLDCRESTS. Two LITTLE GULLS were off Gunton Warren the same day.
On the 26th a GREAT SKUA was seen off Kessingland, and two DARTFORD WARBLERS were at Gunton Warren.
SNIPE and WOODCOCK have been the most obvious arrivals in the last few days, seeking out unfrozen ground to probe for food in.
A SHORE LARK turned up at Kessingland again on the 19th and was still present on the 29th.

BTO Bird Atlas - winter number 3At just past the halfway mark, and now into the third winter period, the BTO is once again asking for your bird records to help fill gaps in the maps of the BTO Bird Atlas.
Here in Suffolk many tetrads have been well covered to date, but there are still many gaps in the centre and the west of the County which need plugging. Can you help? Find the tetrads lacking coverage on the regional results section of the BTO Atlas website. In tetrads that have already been covered there will still be some species present but not yet recorded during visits, usually scarcer or nocturnal species. You can help by adding your roving records for any of these "missing" species when you find them.

Certainly not a species you expect to see in the Lowestoft area, but for those of you present at one of our meetings last year you may recall we had a collection and donated it to a group of Cuban birders who were hoping to mount an expedition to prove the continuing existence of the Cuban Kite (Chondroierax wilsonii).
You will be pleased to hear that they succeeded in finding some, and in photographing one.
You can read more about it on the American Birding Association website, where they have also acknowledged your help.
