Spare Parts
Spare Parts : Where can I get second hand parts?
Two suggestions.
First up, we've a bloke on the FOC-U board that goes by the name of woollybleater who
- well here it is in his own words:
"Hello peeps Simon sheep are going to get you here.
I offer to Fazer owners reconditioned parts from powder coated stands, coolant pipes, swing
arm end plates etc to rebuilt calipers, carbs, just about anything really.
The parts are priced cheap as a service for fazer enthusiasts like myself, both my wife and
I have them.
I don't want to rip people off, I do it because I am fed up with paying dealer prices for parts
to replace those oh so corroded parts that Fazers suffer from.
Example complete set of coolant pipes in black £20, main stand £10. This is not smoothrite, this
is fusion bonded epoxy much much tougher.
I also have loads of bits and bobs for sale.
Contact me at fazerexchange@aol.com.
Keeping it moderately authentic, Simon sheep are going to get you."
Not used him myself, don't know anyone who has, but that's what he says.
(Watch out for them sheep, though)
Of course, there's bound to be someone who'll need something in a hurry, and can't get hold of him.
What other options are there?
Well, we've had a few recommendations on FOC-U for www.bike-breakers.info
they're online and free, so got to be worth first try.
They're an online 'part search' company who'll do the leg work for you - you contact them and tell them what it is you
want, they contact breakers, and with a bit of luck, you get phone calls from the ones who've got the part. Probably
doesn't need saying, but don't buy the first one - there'll probably be a few; get prices and go for what you reckon
is the best deal. But remember that sometimes 'mint condition' means 'was doing under 20mph when it went down the
road'.
And if you find what you wanted through them, please remember to pop onto the board and say thanks to Miss Hornet,
who spotted them and brought them to FOC-U's notice.
Other than them, a few people have had results with PartFinder UK (0906 111 9999), who do pretty much the same thing,
but at a charge of about £1.50ish
If you've no joy from that lot, or fancy doing the leg work yourself, then there always seem to be a few bits and bobs
on EBAY, so that's probably worth a look, otherwise you're left with contacting the breakers yourself.
Specific breakers that people have recommended include:
FAZER SPARES - 0117 914 6514 or 0117 935 1133 (ask for giles);
FULLSPEED APART (sorry can't find the number! Will put it in if I do)
