Born in the catherdral town of Durham, I now live in the Scottish Borders, where the rural countryside provides plenty of inspiration for my paintings. With a love for close observation of the natural world, its exciting forms, vivid colours and textures are hopefully reflected in my work using both watercolour and a range of mixed media. My photography is an important tool which helps supplement my work, from simple reference to more creative elements.
My stylistic influences include medieval paintings, the Pre-Raphaelites and the decorative arts, with an abiding attraction for the embellished surface.
I have ten years experience in tutoring my own regular art classes in flower painting and general illustration. Whilst I have drawn these to a close for pastures new, I now have very fond memories stored and have met some wonderful people along the way, all of whom showed great commitment and reaped the rewards in the high quality of the work they produced. I would be happy to offer private one-one teaching to any interested individuals - enquiries welcome.
Pastures new for 2013 : Following gaining a diploma in creative writing with the Open University, I can now commit more time to the writing of my first novel (when I'm not painting of course)
