St. Michael,
Brough.
Parish Church of St. Michael, Brough, Cumbria
Brough Church is a haven
of peace, tranquillity and prayer, remarked on many, many times in
our visitors book.
Parts of it date from the 12th century, but
it has been rebuilt, ransacked, rebuilt again and added to over the
centuries to become the church we love and enjoy worshipping in.
this is one of the few churches in the land where the bride actually
does walk up the aisle to her wedding due to our gently sloping nave!
We
love to receive visitors and there is lots more information about
the building available in the church. There is also a comprehensive
display about the area's history in the church. We can be found
just off the A685 about 200yards south of the A66 junction and therefore
a convenient stop halfway between Scotch Corner and Penrith.
Just follow the tourist signs to Brough Castle, park in the square
and go left at the end. The church is normally open between
10am and 4pm (or dusk if that is earlier).
A leaflet giving details
of a circular drive/cycle ride visiting other churches in the area
(including Stainmore St. Stephen) is available.
Sunday services
are normally at 10.45am with Sunday School provision at most of them.
