 L'Echo Des Savanes

From the 1970s, this cover gallery follows the history of this innovative underground comic from France. Rude, upfront and very french by nature, this is the title that launched Claire Bretecher's career and brought all it's contributors to the fore. Many of these covers are works of art in themselves - many displaying a sense of sexual humour rather more sophisticated than its USA counterparts, for whom a companion reprint title ran parallel to the main magazine.

The title later transformed into a glossy text-based magazine akin to the earlier transformation of the underground paper, "Actuel", but these originals are not only highly valuable, but probably represent the best example of the genre outside America.
