Caroline Royal

I make Contemporary Silver Jewellery, my collections take inspiration from my love of geometric shapes and forms.
I add colour and pattern to a piece with the method of oxidisation to darken the silver, I combine resin in some pieces by casting blocks of colour into silver structures. Each piece is handcrafted, high quality and excellent finish are assured. The patterns evoke a modern urban feel with clean lines that are beautifully elegant.

I draw inspiration from all aspects of everyday life, but a love of perfecting new ideas and techniques and applying them in my designs is what drives me.

My work consists mostly of geometric forms. Particularly circles, domes and rectangles, evoking a modern, urban feel.

Functionality is a fundamental principle. Whilst my pieces are always aesthetic, my aim is for them to be comfortable, wearable and practical.

This belief lead to the interchangeable magnets idea. The concept that the wearer can effect the way a piece looks and is worn through their own choice is something that interests me. I like the idea of having the versatility in a piece to change the colour to match an outfit for example.

.

I work in two different ways, some pieces have very precise design ideas from the onset, and others have no defined layout, simply evolving until completion.
The particular piece I am making determines which method I employ.
Quality craftsmanship and excellent finish are of up most importance.

EXPERIENCE
In the summer of 2004, after completing my 2nd year at university, I worked for a company called MacKinnon & Saunders in Altrincham. The company creates puppets for films such as Tim Burton's 'Nightmare before Christmas' and 'Mars Attacks'.
I was selected to assist at a very busy time for the company, during the making of the characters for Tim Burton's Corpse Bride, because of my attention to detail and the high standard of finish in my work.
My duties included making components for use in the mechanisms of the puppets, preparing the puppets structures ready for casting and multiples of puppets hands.
I also worked on a children's TV programme called 'FIFI Forget Me Not' where worked the characters eyes.
