The Association was formed on 21st November 1945 at the Savoy Hotel in London. Principal guests included actor Richard Wilding and actresses Sally Grey and Valerie Hobson. Every year, since then, the Association has held a Reunion in the Autumn.
The Association is organised nationally, with the usual Committee structure, and regionally through branches in London, Wessex, the South West, the Midlands and the North. Branches organise their own events as resources allow.
In its fortieth year, the Association was honoured by the acceptance of the great soldier and historian General Sir John Hackett GCB, CBE, DSO, MC, MA, B Litt, LLD to be its first Patron. Known to the Association as 'General Shan', he held the office for ten years.
General Sir John Learmont KCB, CBE graciously accepted the invitation to be General Hackett's successor.
The Association journal, The Eagle, is published in April, August and December.
