I biked from the Clateringshaws (free) car park up the access track to the transmitter to a point at NX567762 (there is no obstacle to driving up to the transmitter). Heading ENE to the Nick of Benniguinea (named on the OS25 map), a track can be picked up which has come along the rim of the crags, probably from the transmitter. This good track can be followed all the way to the summit (passing through NX 57081 76379, 57187 76413, 57715 76372). It is easy to see when on it, but difficult to find if lost. Do not be tempted to head directly towards the top - the going across the col is very rough, possibly being old felled forest The firm ground level hidden under the vegetation varies greatly. Higher up the hill the track is indistinct in parts but is well cairned. Ther are superb views from the trig point.
