I initially started from the £1.50 car park at Sandyhills Bay and headed up the track to Laggan intending to head NW from the bend in the track at NX896566. However a local at Laggan recommended an alternative route which would avoid the deer fence which follows the line of the NE-SW wall just S of the summit. He said to park near Bow Hill at NX861562 where a track eventually went to the summit.

Parking was not a problem and at the track junction at NX883572 I took the left fork (possibly the R fork woud have been better). This headed generally NE past Bainlock, but the path petered out at NX889578 so I headed SE to the upper wall then SW to the forest at NX889573 where there appeared to be a break following a stream. After difficult thrashing through dense-ish forest I eventually emerged W of the summit cairn.

I returned S to the wall & deer fence referrred to before and followed this SW but forest encroachment made this difficult and I climber over to the much easier going on the other side of the deer fence. I climbed back over the wobbly fence & wall at NX887565 to follow a track which led NW to the road just S of where I was parked.
