Christening Robe 11
Unknown provenance. Made 1860-80. From Margaret Scott's cousin, Jean, from Bridge of Weir. Bought at jumble sale.

Bodice front: very finely and densely embroidered with flowerheads. Very fine laddering within cornflower petals. Eyelets very small. Padded leaves and sprigs. Fine and varied fillings. Lines of design defined by chains of eyelets. Wings: plain with fine pointed edge and single eyelet. Sleeves: two flat frills. Shoulder: densely embroidered daisy with spider's web filling. Edge: larger scallop made up of three smaller scallops with internal sprig. Back frill scalloped with no eyelets. Neck edge similar scallop to bodice. Junction: seeded and sprigged.
Skirt panel: trailing to very top. Open design, quite free down to formalised lower panels. Eyelets and several varied fillings. three stylised fillings - again design defined by chains of eyelets. Nicely sprigged with sprays to outer edge where wings fold over inward. Mend at centre front bottom hem. Wings: plain with fine scalloped edge - eyelets and 'exclamation marks'.
