Christening Robe 15

Unknown provenance, possibly made in 1880s, no fillings.
Skirt ties/sash may have been added at later date.
Bodice: daisy medallion with concentric eyelets and row of daisies - more eyelets. Sprays of leaves interrupting eyelet framing of bodice.
Collar: scallop edge with pattern of beading in two rows of three's. Sleeves: frills go from outside lower edge over shoulder into back of bodice at sleeve seam. Some padded embroidery and eyelets.
Skirt panel: trailing quite high. Asymmetrical twining of two stems with berries and clusters of eyelets. Sprays and sprigs. Formalised pattern in lower portion defined by chains of eyelets. Medallion of daisies and eyelets and more daisies. Seeding in leaves. Good sense of scale according to place in panel. Exuberant texture of ferny leaves. Four deep arcs of concentric rows of eyelets and beading. Scallops and berries around panel hem through to plain scallops around skirt hem. Some rubbing. Inward facing wings edged with scallops and berries. Trailing down through arcing sprays and curves of eyelets.
