Christening Robe 8
From E.W. Thomson collection.
Bodice panel: inserted into newer bodice (possibly just the back, but done with a sewing machine, therefore of late date).Tucks in the back of the bodice have been turned and anchored with single row of handsewn backstitch. The panel is densely embroidered, finely executed and well designed with three fillings and amounts of laddering. The panel is banded by two rows of oversized eyelets. Wings: Scalloped and sprigged. Sleeves: two flat frills with a sewn internal scallop and embroidered with beading and padded stitchery.
Skirt panel: trailing from very top - upper design quite open with fine sprigs and eyelet 'bees'. Lower part quite formal with well-padded stitchery. Radiating lines of eyelets from central motif to hem. Hem edging scallop and single eyelet.
Wings: patch under right wing and mend in lower left skirt wing.
