Fichus and Capes (FC1 to FC6)

FC1 Shawl, fine unbleached wool with cotton perle embroidered in two corners with motifs on opposite sides; scallops meet and change over. Surely like this because worn like a Paisley shawl, diagonally folded with both corners visible. Red cleaner’s mark. Ca 1900.

FC2 not to hand, similar to FC1 above

FC3 Fichu, 12” deep; linen thread with some glazing, or cotton; machine lace, very open design

FC4 Lappets, two 16” long with bird motifs at ends; mended tear one end, other with wear. Provenance Mrs Limond of Minishant, cf Ayrshire Needlework, p 9.

FC5 Apron, possibly maid’s; squared oval in shape, two pockets, ties torn; scallops, exuberant sprigging and seeding, pulled thread work. From Mrs Limond as FC4.

FC6 Fichu in very fine transparent muslin, large pointed flowers with seven petals, filled centres; trailing sprig greenery winding in S shapes, outlined berries, pointed scallop edging. Some darning.
