This web site captures memories of riding the English Sea to Sea cycle route from Whitehaven in Cumbria to Sunderland on the North Sea coast of County Durham. Fourteen riders took part, covering the 135 mile route in two and a half days, from September 1st to September 3rd 2006. We saw a lot of different weather (it was the British summer, after all), and raised £2368 for charity through the generosity of friends, family and colleagues—thanks very much! Half of the money raised was given to the British Heart Foundation, as two of our colleagues have recently suffered non-fatal heart attacks. The other half was donated to the Ambleside and Langdale Mountain Rescue team, who came to the aid of one of our riders when he found himself in difficulty on the Lake District fells.
There were a number of laughs, great views, hard climbs and the odd pint of beer along the way. All in all, a great experience! |

Nine of the riders came from Nestlé, while three came from Freedom and one from Alcatel, two of our telecoms partners. Michael’s friend Andrew took the number of riders up to fourteen. |

It was undeniably hard work, but we all enjoyed the experience (well, most of it anyway!) and felt a great sense of camaraderie on the road—and in the roadside hostelries en route! Now, what about next year….. |
