Made a better job of the left floor by masking of all the areas I didn't want covering in sika first, and by using less sikaflex in the first place. Setting the 40 odd pop rivets was bit of a marathon.
29/07/2006
Heater installation complete. I stripped and rebuilt the heater fitting a new matrix and gave it a coat of paint. Good as new!

Fuel sender fitted using a ring of rivnuts as invented by PeterUx (MarlinPeter). Strange though, my sender has six fixing holes and his has five. I hope Marlin have supplied the right one...
29/07/2006
Tank from underneath. Fuel pipes well away from diff although the run is a bit long without support. Might have to do something about that.

29/07/2006
Fuel return pipe with 8mm to 10mm reducer fixed to chassis with a P clip so pipe is well away from diff.

Fuel system at front with (left to right) swirl pot, high pressure pump and standard BMW filter. Lots of plumbing - still a few clips to add but basically complete. T piece joins return from engine and overflow from swirl pot - which was the recommended method from Sytec (supplier of the swirl pot).

Another shot of the fuel system at the front. I am n
ot to happy about the low pressure braided hose as it is very soft and easily collapses if you try and bend it with too small a radius.

I have been doing some virtual kit car building and playing with the dash layout in Paintshop. Full size image actually a picture of dashboard with 1 pixel = 1mm if anyone else wants to play. Steering wheel drawn at about 13 inches diameter

04/09/2006
Conventional sort of layout with temperature, fuel and clock in the centre, speedo and rev counter thru' the wheel. Whatever layout I choose plan is to have big glovebox on left

04/09/2006
Love the idea of a big tacho in the centre of the dash. Greengauge do a 140mm one at almost the same price in pounds...

Bit arty this one - but looks good...

I modified the Marlin supplied servo adapter to make a fork into which the brake pedal fits. Hopefully this should transfer the force from the pedal to the servo more effectively.
03/10/2006
This meant that the brake pedal had to be repositioned - you can see the spacer on the left of the pivot.

I found that when just using a bolt for the throttle pedal the bolt rotated in the hole in the pedal box which would have soon worn it oval - so I modified the mount to use a stud made from a bolt with the head chopped off and a thread cut on both ends.
10/10/2006
Modified the end of the throttle pedal to take the standard BMW cable which has a hook on the end. The little tab is silver soldered into the grove that Marlin machine in the end of the pedal.
10/10/2006
Business end of the throttle cable. I used one from a 1990 318 and it fits a treat although I am not sure I fitted it in the original location. My donor seems to have two alterenative positions for the cable.
Using a standard cable is better for future spares availablity (I hope....)

10/10/2006
Throttle cable where it leaves the bulkhead. I made TWO deliberate mistakes (groan)

1.Made the first hole in the wrong place. I didn't take into account that the BMW cable fits through the bulkhead at an angle.
2. Made the second hole very slightly to big and the cable was a loose fit - hence the P-clip which shouldn't really be neccesary.

28/10/2006
Plumbing for clutch. I should have done this before I fitted the fuel pump and heater as I had to remove said items to gain access. While I was at it I have drilled a hole in the bulkhead to take the wiring loom to the engine compartment.

Final resting place for the coil on (yet another) home made bracket. Not a perfect location, a bit low down, but as far away from the exhaust mainfold as I could sensibly get it.
