Completed engine bay from the left showong brake and clutch master cylinders and plumbing. Just need to add a clamp for the battery.
10/01/2007
Completed engine bay from front right showing rad fan temperature control and little adapter I made to fit the sensor to the pipe. Hopefully it wont leak!

More of the same.
10/01/2007
Rear wiring loom. I made it flat by heat shrinking it to a bit of plastic moulding. That way it will vanishj under the transmission tunnel carpet without leaving any bumps.

10/01/2007
Centre console in position. I re-used the original lighting and hazard switches and the loom. I used the heated rear window switch for the heater fan.

Another shot of the centre console in position. Wiring getting pretty busy!
10/01/2007
Centre consoleon the bench (well kitchin table - don't tell the wife...) Its fixed to the heater so the whole lot comes in and out as one assembly.

Plan to use the glove box light wiring to supply a period style map reading light and I am going to re-use the BMW re-chargeable torch. Connector for same in foreground.

Replacement spring plates. I plan to grind off the spring plates from the suspension armes and weld these new ones back on in a position where the bumpstops will line up correctly. (rather than moving the spring mounts on the chassis) The huge nut and bolt arangement will give me the added bonus of adjustable bumb stops!
21/01/2007
I have "bitten the bullet" and removed the spring plates from the trailing arms. In the end it was very simple - just 6 spot welds. I used a spot weld cutter and it was all over in about 5 minutes!
21/01/2007
The old spring plate with the holes where I cut the spot welds.
21/01/2007
Trial fit of the new spring plates. Held in place by blue tack to get the position correct.

New spring plate in place but not yet welded up. The plan is to weld the nut to the plate and then spotweld the plate to the arm The new plate is offset about 1/2" from the old one but still well supported by the trailing arm.

A couple of pictures of Rob Dorey's Sportster fitted with MX5 seats.

14/04/2007
Trial fit of MX5 seats raises some problems. The seatbelts want to go through the headrest supports - so looks like no headrests.
The rear seatbelt mount for some reason is not positioned in line with the centre of the seats - strange.

14/04/2007
Other than that seats and seatbelts fit OK. The seat is naked at the moment - the plan is to get them re-upholstered in leather.
14/04/2007
Potential problem with the position of the bar that is effectively the upper seat belt anchorage. The thicknes of the seatpads dictates it needs to be quite high. Possibly too high to fit within the rear shell...

22/04/2007
Couple of pictures of the made-to-order rear springs - proper job, none of this collapsing coils or cutting coils off business...

Possible alternative mounting for tank.
