Boot floor under contruction. In the end I used some cheapo exterior
ply left over from another project. Should be fine as ling as
it's painted well.

Competed boot floor before painting. I decided
not to extend it rearward beyond the chassis rails as it would
be very exposed. Instaed I filled in the gaps with small upstands.
I cut the floor in half so that (in theory anyway) I can take
it out without removing the real tub giving me access to the fuel
tank.

I cut away the surpless fiberglass so it followed the chassis
rails. Without doing this it will be a good mud trap.

Rear wing fitted. The fit between the tub and the wing isn't great
but should look fine once wing piping is fitted. I used M6 SS
screws and rivnuts in the tub to fix the wing. Alpina wheel will
need a spacer and higher profile tyres.

Cut out for the lights. They are supposed to be mounted on plinths
but I didn't want to do that so had to cut an awkward shape in
the wing instead. Positioning of the lights follows the rear wing
taper.

I had a bit of an Oh Shit moment with the rear lights as they
are very deep and could foul the wheels. In the end I modified
them so that they had flying leads soldered directly to the bulb
holders so reducing thier depth by about 3 cm. Everything sealed
using hot glue.

16" Alpina's look good but will need some spacers and higher
profile tyres. I looked on Ebay today and had a shock. There
is a set going for over £700 and still one day left to
go!

Details of tank breather. I took the breather valve apart and
made a small nick in the valve seat. Now it can suck air in and
(very slowly) let air out so hopefully the tank won't get pressurised
in the hot weather.

Trial fit of the brand new Azev rims. OK so not the prettiest
of rims but a snip at £200 for 4.

Azevs have a slightly different offset (ET20) with a bit of luck
I might not need spacers for clearance.

Checking the seatbelt for SVA compliance. You need 450mm between
the turning point and a block 52x136mm on the seat. Seats are
from and MX5 and are comfy but have a lot of padding!

It looks like I will have to do something like Patrick and get
an extra tube welded between the roll cage uprights - unless I
can think of a way to do it without welding....

Cut-out for seatbelt clearance. You can't see it here but the
seatbelt just misses the indent from the spare wheel well. Phew..
|
06/07/2008
I have about 470mm if I get the extra tube fitted. Now that I
am happy the seats and seatbelts fit I am going to order some
new seat covers. There's a guy on ebay that does leather for about
£200 the pair.

Home made handbrake-on switch. I lost the original and although
Peter was able to find the part number for me I decided it would
be quicker to make one than go all the way to my nearest BMW dealer.
